Cavallo

I shipped a machine-learning product into the daily workflow of B2B distributors.

As VP of Product at Cavallo, I led a nine-person product and UX team — product managers, designers, and delivery — that set the roadmap and ran the backlog for roughly forty engineers, and shipped Customer IQ, machine intelligence embedded where distributors already work. I also built the AI-augmented pipeline that helped us find the right bets faster.

The Problem

Cavallo is a leader in distribution software, with thousands of distributors running their business on its platform.

Its next chapter was AI: intelligence embedded in the daily work.

Getting there meant evolving the product without disrupting the customers who depend on it every day.

Why It Was Hard

The platform couldn’t skip a beat.

You cannot disrupt a platform people depend on while building its next generation.

And the same nine-person product and UX team had to do both at once: keep that platform strong and ship something genuinely new. Move too fast and you break trust. Move too slow and you miss the AI window. Every bet had to count.

The Bet

Build only what customers will actually adopt, and build AI into how the team works so we find it faster.

Prototype with AI, test against a real customer need, and commit engineering only to what earned it. The point was never to generate more. It was to bet on the right things sooner.

I led the team that shipped Customer IQ into mission-critical distributor workflows, validated the product through a 10-account beta, and built a more rigorous AI product development process inside an incumbent enterprise platform.

Customer IQ: machine intelligence where distributors work.

We shipped Customer IQ, a machine-learning customer-intelligence product, on SalesPad and Microsoft Business Central. It scores customer profitability, predicts churn risk, and surfaces lifetime value, embedded in the order and sales workflows distributors already use, not in a separate dashboard.

Insight that lives where the decisions get made.

I shipped AI into the work distributors do every day, and left a team that builds with it by default.
